If you’re familiar with what goes on here at Mind and Body Lifestyle, you know I’m all about personal development (mentally/emotionally mostly) and self-care for mental health!

Pretty much anything to do with getting in touch with yourself and working on development in all important areas of life (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual) is what I’m passionate about (especially the mental health aspect).

If you’re interested in personal development but don’t know where to start, books are a great option. I know it’s not always realistic for some of us to have time each day to sit down and read, but if you work on creating a self-care routine (for mental health), small things like that can become a priority and change your life.

And believe me, it’s worth the effort to practice making time for yourself like that!

Without further ado, here are my recommended best personal development books to read! (They’re all linked below their descriptions in case you want to read more about them or purchase them for yourself)

“You are a Badass” by Jen Sincero

I cannot say enough good about this amazing book! Jen’s style of writing is amazing and hilarious and I plan on reading this book over and over again. I don’t understand how she can afford to sell them at such an inexpensive price considering how amazingly life-changing they are!

Don’t get me wrong – I appreciate a great deal, but this almost feels wrong. I cannot thank Jen Sincero enough for sharing these amazing books with us! Absolutely inspiring is all I can say.

I’m currently reading “You are a Badass at Making Money” and that one has been great for busting my personal myths around making money and the lackful relationship I always had with it. I think I’ll need to read through it another time or two (twist my arm) as I did not get through it as quickly as I would have liked, but it’s been more than enjoyable this first time around so I can’t wait to see what else I pick up on when I read it again!

I could write a whole article about why I love these books so much but that’s not what you’re here for, so I’ll keep it moving. (I’ll link them down below with the others in case you want to check them out for yourself!)

I’ll link them both right here in case you don’t want to check them out for yourself!

“There are many little ways to enlarge your world.  Love of books is the best of all.” – Jacqueline Kennedy

“Good Vibes, Good Life How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness” by Vex King

This Sunday Times best seller is known for its transformative material on how to love yourself, change your negative emotions and develop your thinking into thoughts that work for you instead of against you. I’ve personally never read this one but it’s on my list!

Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness

“Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert

This top-rated book is great for boosting your creativity. If you feel like you’re meant to live a more creative life, this book seems to be all that rage in that specific situation. For anyone who may be unfamiliar, Elizabeth Gilbert is the author of the bestselling “Eat, Pray, Love” if that tells you anything about how amazing “Big Magic” should be!

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle

Again, another amazing addition to my list of books to read. Anyone that I know of this the personal development space has talked about how amazing this book is.

I can’t give you personal opinion on it (yet), but I can pass along this information from others who have read it, rave about it, and are way more successful and on top of their personal development game.

“Give and Take” by Adam Grant

Okay, maybe I’m just sharing my personal reading to-do list with you all, but what’s wrong with that!? This amazing find is all about how to drive your own success by helping others and I am here for it! So often success can feel somewhat unfulfilling.

I’ve found that it’s because I was being selfish about how I went about it. What better way to find success and contribute than to figure out how to fulfill your own success desires while helping other! Needless to say, this is near the top of my list!

Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success

“Power Manifesting” by Nick Breau

I love when I find a self-development piece about manifesting that is produced by a man. It’s great that us ladies have a certain “knack” when it comes to spirituality, but I love hearing a man’s matter-of-fact take on it all.

I also enjoy a variety of perspectives when it comes to personal development, so this one looks like it will bring variety to my collection.

“Habits of a Happy Brain” by Loretta Bruening

I have yet to read this one also, but I am very much looking forward to it! This one is all about retraining your brain to boost natural levels of “happy chemicals” all while understanding the process behind it. It’s a more scientific way of getting to know what “makes you tick”.

I can’t wait to combine this kind of scientific knowledge with manifestation and other personal development type strategies I’ve been learning! I imagine it would be extremely empowering to harness all of this amazing knowledge and scale my life to the next level! Makes me want to take a week off and just read everything on my list!

“Necessary Endings” by Dr. Henry Cloud

The last one from my personal list that I’ll share is called “Necessary Endings” by Dr. Henry Cloud. Obviously, each one of these is at the top of my list, but I’m so exited to get to this one.

One of my favorite mentors recommended this book and I know it’s going to be life-changing! It’s all about changing the way you view various limiting situations in various areas of your life. It sounds like it would be helpful for getting me out of a cyclical rut I keep facing along my path to success and I can’t wait to see how it improves my journey!

Necessary Endings by Dr. Henry Cloud

Sometimes, choosing a great personal development book can seem a little overwhelming at first. If you don’t know where to start, do what I did and just pick one of these! I chose to start with Jen Sincero’s “You are a Badass” first then when right into “You are a Badass at Making Money”. I kept hearing about them over and over and felt like I was missing out.

I’m not kidding when I say that all 3 podcasts I regularly listen to were talking about how amazing they are! Since I’m always looking to consume the best, most life enhancing material, it was only fitting I take all of their advice and start there.

I bought them both as a bundle purchase for an unbelievable price! It feels like life changing material like this should be 10 times that price – but I’m going to argue with it.

By the way, here’s the link to the 2-book bundle deal if you’re interested…
